「Chitose.」
We had finished eating, and were in the corridor on our way back to the classroom when Nanase called out to me to stop. Since I was walking at just about the back of the group, the others didn’t notice and continued to move forward.
「Something up? Are you perhaps inviting me on a date to steal a march on Yuuko and Yua and close the distance all at once?」
「That’s right…that kind of sneak attack might not be so bad.」
Neither exasperated nor bashful, Nanase put her slightly opened hand to her mouth and giggled. Her hair which swayed with each movement was like a soft mistletoe on which a sprite from a fairytale was resting its wings. So very cute beyond fault.
「But right now I want to talk about something else. About earlier, are you involved in some kind of trouble, Chitose?」
So she noticed after all, huh.
In the first place, it was unnatural for me to suddenly bring up the topic of truancy, no matter how I tried to smooth over it. Although it wasn’t a topic that I was actively spreading, at the same time, I didn’t have any obligation to go out of my way to hide it from my peers when asked. Seeing as how he didn’t swear me to secrecy, I daresay that Kura-sen had factored that in to some extent.
「It’s just that Kura-sen asked me for a little favour. There was one person who didn’t come yesterday or today, right? Their name’s Yamazaki Kenta-kun, and apparently he’s been playing truant since the end of last year.」
「So because of that, you’ve been asked to persuade him to come to school? A popular person sure has it tough.」
「I know, right? Anyway, there’s no way to deal with it unless I ask about his circumstances, so I’m planning to drop by after school today. Not that I think there’s much that a complete stranger of a class rep can do about it.」
「Hmm……」
Nanase furrowed her eyebrows in thought. The action, which was a bit over the top and even dumb, somehow suited the beautiful girl in front of me too well.
「If you’re okay with it, do you mind if I come along? I can make up for club activities as much as I need to later on, and Chitose going alone might not be such a good idea.」
As I thought, Nanase does resemble me.
I murmured that in my mind. I hadn’t told her the full details of the situation, and yet, she had probably arrived at the same conclusion as me.
「Thanks. However, I’m wondering if our types might be too similar. Although it might still be the beginning, I want to pick up as much information as I can, so I’m asking someone else.」
「I see… so you’re saying I’m not needed, right. In that case, I’ll leave it to you, but if there’s ever a situation where I can be of help, feel free to call me.」
Nanase smiled mischievously.
「Since I’m the type that gives their all for those whom I’ve acknowledged.」
「…Is it fine for me to interpret giving your all in the wider sense of the phrase!?」
「That’s incorrect!」
「Very clever, damn it!」
Making a small ‘x’ mark in front of her face, leaving behind a meaningful smile, the set of springy bowl-shaped D-cups departed.
